"In working with Jada on a custom piece for my home I knew the work would be beautiful. But as it turned out it is exquisite." - L. Huss
Jada Kathryn Hughey is a glass artist based in Colorado. Jada’s prevailing inspiration is her connection to the natural world, particularly the distinct landscapes of the west from Pacific coastlines to Rocky Mountain ranges. Through careful selections of color, pattern and shape, she translates feelings of mountain air, earthy forests, or pristine water through each piece. The resulting organic designs and layered textures mimic nature’s rhythms and their perceptual effects.
Jada was raised in an artistic household in a small town near the ocean, nestled in California’s Santa Cruz Mountains. As a stained glass artist herself, Jada’s mother encouraged her daughter’s artistic interests.
Jada accompanied her mother in the studio from the time she was a baby in a crib, to when she made her first piece at age four, to ultimately collaborating on complicated projects together. When Jada founded “ClearLight Glass Co.” in 2019, she named it after her mother’s “Clear Light and Company,” honoring her mothers patient teaching and artistic influence.
While Jada was engaged with the arts at an early age, she explored other entrepreneurial ventures before returning to stained glass. Upon reconnecting, she discovered a deep sense of fulfillment bringing art into lives of her clients. At that point, Jada decided to fully shift her attention, and her career, to making art.
Jada's focus is on creating original, one-of-a-kind pieces that are unique in their handmade quality and varied material. Some styles are built from Jada’s original patterns, while others are composed organically as the artist relies on creative intuition to design balanced yet spontaneous compositions. Jada’s decision to work originally is in part due to her commitment to a creative practice and lifestyle, but is also in line with her personal motivations to honor our differences and to celebrate our uniqueness as individuals. Channeling this sentiment into her studio practice informs creative decision making when it comes to forming abstract designs and incorporating unexpected materials. You can see her currently available items on Etsy.
Jada also enjoys custom pieces and commission orders for special projects outside her available inventory and enjoys bringing her clients' vision to life. To inquire about your own custom project please find the contact form here.
In fall of 2021, Jada moved her studio and home to Arvada, Co and has enjoyed connecting with the greater Denver areas rich art community. You can visit her studio by appointment.
